History

The term ‘psychology’ has been credited to German philosopher Rudolf Goeckel, first published in 1590. The root of the word, psyche, is the approximate of ‘soul’ in Greek, and ‘ology’ of course represents ‘study of’. Until the end of the 19th century, psychology was regarded as a philosopy as opposed to a science as we think of it today.
